The Smoky Mointains Vistors Guide

Climate

The Appalachian 6,700 feet high peaks, exert tremendous changes on regional weather and climate patterns. Within these climate zones are habitats that foster plant and animal life  found from Georgia to Maine. Normally it takes 6 weeks for spring to climb the mountains and autumn descends six weeks earlier in the surrounding lowlands. In the spring, freezing temperatures occur at night and in the 70's and 80's during the day towards mid April. Summers are hot and humid and autumn brings clear skies. Winter months are cool and cold and reach below freezing temperatures at night.

Weather in the smoky mountains can change drastically at any given time. So be sure to check the current temperatures we have provided for you by clicking the following areas.

The following tables give an extended overview of what to expect. Temperatures are in degrees Fahrenheit, precipitation and snow in inches, T=trace. Days with precipitation had more than .1 in. All data are monthly averages.
